The Best Of Me
 Nicholas Sparks

“All this. Being here, seeing you. It makes me think back to a time when I still believed that all my dreams could come true. It’s been a long time since I’ve felt like that” (202).

Dawson and Amanda come from two completely different lifestyles: Amanda has a good life and has a good future planned out for her. Dawson coming from a long line of criminals in the town they grow up doesn’t have a good life because he is abused at home and of his family history; no one likes him because they are worried he will turn out like his dad and brothers even though he is completely different then they are. Despite what their parents think and how different their lifestyles are, Dawson and Amanda find love and make each other happy. Dawson and Amanda first meet at a restaurant in their town and they talk and hang out. The next day Amanda's car is having trouble so Dawson helps fix it. Eventually, the two realize they both like each other and they start dating. Dawson leaves his abusive home and goes to a random house and sleeps in the garage. The next day Tuck, the owner of the house finds Dawson and tells him he is allowed to live in his garage as long as he doesn’t steal anything. Amanda hangs out with Dawson at Tuck's house most of the time because her parents don’t approve of her dating Dawson because he comes from a lower class than they do. Over time Tuck comes to realize Dawson as more of a son and cares for him and Amanda. Eventually, Dawson and Amanda have to end their relationship but are then brought together 25 years later when Tuck dies. By now Amanda is married and has 2 kids and lost one to cancer when she was a baby. While Dawson and Amanda are cleaning up and packing Tuck's house they realize that they still love each other and shouldn’t have broken up Even if I thought he as perfect for her." She turned to face him.“Don't know. There’s a lot of magic between you ain’t no denying that” (25). When they both return to their lives after their time together, Amanda’s son needs a heart transplant by a turn of events. He gets a heart from a donor and a year later we find out who gave him the heart “ I gave you the best of me, he'd told her once, and with every beat of her son's heart, she knew he'd exactly done that” (333).

I recommend this book for anyone who loves romance novels and for anyone who doesn’t mind crying in books and or movies. Both this book and the movie made me cry, and I never cry during books or movies. It had a lot of suspense especially at the end, and it always left you with the question of why did they have to end their relationship. It also leaves you remembering that everything happens for a reason, and the ending is one of the saddest endings. The saying “everything happens for a reason” is so highlighted in this book as much as we wish it was not. I would give this book a 10/10 recommendation because of the ending and the storyline, and it is just such an amazing book that I would recommend to people who don’t mind crying but also to anyone who is looking for a good read.
