Infinite In Between
By Carolyn Mackler

“Expect to be accepted for who you are.”

The book Infinite in Between by Carolyn Mackler is about 5 teenagers who start the life of High School together. New opportunities, drama, first love, and first heartbreak. Gregor, Whitney, Zoe, Jake and Mia all meet at freshman orientation. As part of their ice breaker activity, they decide to write letters to their senior selves and promise to open them together during graduation. But during the years new people come into their lives and many old friends exit them. New problems come up and old ones are solved. Infinite In Between fully captures the essence of high school, from the nervous butterflies before the first day of freshman year, all the ups and downs in between, to the sad goodbyes in the last days of senior year.
I enjoyed the book because I thought it was very relatable since I started freshman year and I think that everyone who reads it that is now in High School will be able to connect to at least one character. I felt that the multiple characters and multiple plots kept the reader from getting bored. But it also took quite long to get the climax of each character because it mainly focused on their background and conflicts leading up to it.
I wouldn't recommend Infinite in Between to anyone the under age of 14 or 15 because it does have use of inappropriate words. I think that they wouldn’t be able to understand the struggles. But I found it to be a very enjoyable reading experience. Not only was it entertaining, but it gave me a thoughtful perspective on life itself. It is fascinating to see each of the main characters grow and change throughout Infinite In Between. I was nervous too when I started High School and felt like I didn’t know anyone at all. Seeing old friends would be very memorable. The characters go through a lot of problems with friends, families and expressing emotions. One of the main characters Whitney has "her stomach ... flipping like crazy. She couldn't wait any longer, she was going to tell Gregor." They saw each other at orientation after facing problems with each other. Whitney was nervous to tell him because of his reaction. In this book, there is a lot of romance between the characters.  The characters seem too nervous to express feelings which is normal in High School. Jake, who had just gotten out of a relationship thinks, "This all hurts all the time. I can't stop thinking about how much this hurts."  So this book basically just reflects the perspective and reality of being in High School. Only reading the first half of the book, I can already tell that I will love the ending.
