Bleach is a story of a teenager named Ichigo Kurosaki who has a supernatural ability to see ghosts and communicate with them. Ichigo’s relationship with his father is more of a rivalry always getting into fights with him. He also has two sisters named Karin and Yuzu. Karin also has the ability to see ghosts as well but all she says is “I don't believe in ghost”. Ichigo goes to his room and a girl with a sword jumps into his room from the window, surprised to see her in his room she doesn't pay attention to Ichigo so he kicks her. The girl was surprised that a human could see her but Ichigo didn't care, he wanted to know what and why she was there to where the girl explains saying “I am a Soul Reaper” and that she came from a place called the soul society with her mission being to kill demons called Hollows from eating souls called Wholes. The soul reaper also explains what they do to wholes which is to bring them to the Soul Society and live their afterlife in peace. After the conversation a Hollow attacks Yuzu and Karin. The Soul reaper yells at Ichigo telling him that the hollow was after him the entire time. Ichigo felt the only way to protect his sisters is to let the hollow kill him but the soul reaper interferes and slashes the hollow but it also bit the soul reapers arm. The soul reaper tells Ichigo “You must become a Soul Reaper” in order to defeat the hollow taking her power in the process. Ichigo agrees and the Soul Reaper tells him her name Rukia Kuchiki. With one swing of his sword, Ichigo kills the hollow and Rukia is stuck in a human form but Ichigo can revert back to one. Ichigo is a substitute soul reaper until Rukia gets her powers back also his friends Orihime Inoue, Sado Yasutora or Chad, and Uryu Ishida all have supernatural powers as well they all help Ichigo hunt down Hollows. A Soul Reaper scientist named Kisuke Urahara helps Ichigo train to become a better Soul Reaper.
I recommend you read up to volume 20 to see if you like it or not because the storyline starts to change afterwards. If you don’t like blood, gore, and violence then this isn’t for you. 686 chapters in a total of 74 volumes In my opinion, this is one of my favorite manga series I have read in a while. From 01/052002 to 11/04/2016 was how long Bleach volumes continued.
