The Longest Ride

In the book The Longest Ride written by Nicholas Sparks a 91 year old man fights for his life with his wife by his side. Ira is a war veteran who went through a terrible car crash but during his recovery he remembers why he fell in love with his late wife named Ruth even though it took him a long time to get the courage to talk to her. Eventually they talked and fall in love, but they faced more problems than a normal relationship would. Despite their struggles he remembers all the happy memories he had with her; he subconsciously brings her back and that's what is keeping him alive. His wife appears to him while he lies helpless in his car, urging him to live longer. They end up reliving tales of their life, otherwise known as the longest ride. Their love story isn’t the only story in the book--it is mostly about two young people who recently met and are completely different. Sophia and Luke are a new love story: she is a city girl while he’s a country boy, and he was her knight in shining armor. They met at a rodeo that Luke was competing in and won. He stood up for her from her ex boyfriend Brian who was getting physical; he was grabbing her after she made things clear that they were broken up. After that they start talking and they hit it off. They develop feelings for each other that soon will be tested with life changing decisions.
The book has been good so far, although I haven’t finished it, Nicholas Sparks made it engaging for me to keep reading since I usually never read. It took pretty long to get to the plot, but it isn’t boring enough to stop reading. There isn’t much to say because I haven’t gotten too far into the book yet. Since I don’t have much of a love story in my life, I can’t really relate to this romantic book, so it didn’t have much of an effect on me. But even though I can’t really relate to this book, I still have an interest in it because it’s a good novel. I wanted to know more about Sophia and Luke’s story more than Ira’s because it was more youthful, but I feel like for someone like me who doesn’t have a love story, I can learn more from Ira’s. It lets me imagine how a love story should be like, going through challenges but still having an everlasting love.
From what I have read so far I would recommend this book. It is a book that is very peaceful. This is something different than what I would usually read, it is more about the countryside since Luke and Sophia’s story is mostly placed on Luke’s farm. This book is filled with romance and overcoming challenges, it makes you realize why people make the choices they do. You can never really know if you will like the book until you read it--so you have to read it to find out.
