I Still Need You

I'll See You Again
By Jackie Hance

Everything seems normal when three girls go on a camping trip with their aunt, until the unexpected happens. In the book I’ll See You Again, Jackie Hance tells her story of how she and Warren are just two ordinary parents with three daughters until a tragedy happens and leaves everyone heartbroken.

Jackie and Warren Hance have three daughters, Emma who is 8, Alyson who is 7, and Katie who’s 5. They are involved in lots of sports and activities, especially Emma being the lead in a musical. Alyson was the kindest and most popular girl in her class and little Katie was the baby of the family, she’s super close with her mom because they get to spend alone time together while the girls and Warren are at school/work. The girls were so excited to go on a camping trip with their Aunt Diane, Uncle Danny, and 2 little cousins, Bryan and Erin. They went last year and had a blast so they were filled with excitement while packing their clothes, snacks, bathing suits, ect. On Friday morning Diane came to pick up the girls. When Diane called Jackie to tell her how it was going the girls said they were having so much fun, but the day the girls came back Diane called and said they were running a little late. About 50 minutes later Diane called...she was slurring her words...Emma talked and said she was scared and she described where she was. Warren went to get them after clearly telling Diane to stay where she was, he repeated this multiple times and Jackie called the police. When he got there they weren't there, they must have driven away. A bunch of Jackie's friends went to the house to be with her because there was word that there had been an accident but no one knew anything. Warren went to the hospital while Jackie just kept repeating, “they’re okay.” Brad, one of the friends on the house got on the phone with Warren, “Jackie, they’re all gone...Jackie, I’m so sorry.” Everyone was so heartbroken. Diane drove on the wrong side of the highway for nearly 2 miles.

“After 1.7 miles, she plowed into an oncoming SUV. Diane and her daughter, Erin, died along with Emma, Alyson, and Katie. Katie was still alive when she got to the hospital but died fighting for her life. Bryan was the only one that survived and was named the ‘miracle child.’”

I personally thought this book was amazing. A lot happens right from the beginning and although you may think the girls dying are the main part it isn’t; this book is really about how Jackie and Warren cope with the fact they're gone. It was heartbreaking but also inspiring, especially since it’s a true story. This book has a message: always keep going no matter how hard things get, you’ll always get through it. It is extremely hard losing one person, especially a family member, but imagine all three of your kids? Jackie and Warren deal with this in their own, unique way, and to see how they deal with this tragedy and grieve, read my next book review. I would recommend this book to people who like sad, heartbreaking books because that is the genre of the book. This is a very inspiring story that I think everyone should read.
